Apprentice of the year 2018

The success of our Apprentice of the Year programme continues as we bring together last year’s entrants for the awards with the new intake for 2018 to map out their path. Graham Main addressed the group with the magnitude “The future strength and success of our business lies within the hands of our young people and that is why we invest in you.”

He continued “The goal of the programme is to develop the apprentices and fast-track their progress to a qualified technician. Years ago you had to be in the workshop 20 years to be considered a top technician now it is about skill, knowledge and attitude and we certainly feel our investment in our youth is working”

“The technology in our business will rival the formula one industry, agricultural businesses need the technically gifted school leavers and to attract them to our industry we need to make it a career with opportunities. The apprenticeship programme gives us that stepping stone and is a three-way commitment between the employee, the college and the company. Our award scheme keeps it joined up and creates some great competition among the guys and keep them focused throughout the course in both the workplace and at college and we are certainly reaping the benefits”.

Again with the help of Sandy Ellis, AGCO’s Aftersales Commercial Manager for the North, each of the four apprentices have been assessed on their first year performance over several different aspects in both workplace and at college, with set criteria of Practicality, Quality of their college Portfolio, Job Sheets, Efficiency, Initiative, Communication and Team Spirit.

With these criteria in mind, this year’s competition again saw great performances all around. The winner for the second year running came from Selby Depot, congratulations to Will Coates a well-deserved winner.

Graham continued “I am proud of the results you have achieved It certainly strikes home the words of our Mission Statement – Through continuous investment and development in our colleagues and our company, we strive to attain the highest quality of service to exceed the needs of our valued customers”
