Tell us about your favourite sports team, who do you support:
I follow two teams really, I am a lifelong fan of Manchester United and I follow my son's team Brigg Town Juniors Under 11’s, both teams are close to my heart as they are a shared passion with my son, Connor.
How long have you supported this team and what is your earliest memory of supporting them?
I have followed them for as long as I can remember really, I’m not from a family of football fans so I’m not sure how or why I started following football, but I do remember it was something that I was just drawn to from a young age. I remember begging my mum to
buy me a shirt from a shop on Scunthorpe high street when I was 5 or 6 so I could look the same as my idols like Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Mark Hughes, Brian McClair & Ryan Giggs. The shirt was nothing genuine or special but it was a green & Yellow t shirt
that you had to stitch your own badge too! (the badge did come with it, however). That being said I still own a 1996 home shirt that I cannot give up….
Why do you support this team?
I’m not sure really on current form, but they are my team and although I dislike how they are performing at the minute it will never sway me from following them or being a member & going to matches… when we are allowed to again. However, following my son's team seems to bring me more joy & excitement then Man United do at the minute…
Who is your favourite player on the team?
My favourite current player is Marcus Rashford, or should I say Marcus Rashford MBE, I think what he is doing off the pitch is a testament to who he is as a
player and a person. Plus, I was lucky enough to be there for his debut and see what a special player he is.
If you could snatch a player from another team to join yours, who would it be and why?
For me, it would be either Cristiano Ronaldo or Sergio Ramos! Ronaldo because I just remember how good a player he was for us and I think Sergio Ramos Is a player who I just LOVE, he winds the opposition up and is a WORLD CLASS defender and my team need that more than anything.
Have you seen them live? Which game was it, & did they win?
I have seen them a few times both home and away, visiting not only Old Trafford but following them to places like Hull (I know it’s not far), London, Blackburn & Sheffield to name a few. One semi-recent game that sticks in my memory is a Europa League game against FC Midtjylland where I was lucky to witness one of the best unknown debuts from an academy player, who I must profess I had my doubts about before kick-off…. Going 1 nil down was not fun but we did manage to win that game 5-1.
