Morris Bros Turf, based in the Isle of Axholme, Lincolnshire, primarily grows and harvests turf. Over the past 25 years the business has grown as they acquired farms and invested heavily on equipment. Today many crops are grown on land owned by Morris Bros, including potatoes, carrots, beetroot and cereals, whilst irrigation allows for better quality crops. The turf operation is the mainstay of the business supplying turf to retail and trade customers from near and far.
The business is family run, by Philip, his wife Josephine and son William.
Talking on the expansion, Philip told us:
"Improvements to infrastructure have taken place due to the rate of growth, many 1,000s of metres of irrigation mains have been installed and reservoirs built. We have improved
and planted around 6,000 metres of native hedgerows and planted approximately 21 acres of native deciduous trees and excavated lakes and ponds to enhance the environment. Conservation has been an important part in the development of our land, it is important to us that we introduce as much biodiversity into our environment as possible and improve the area for ourselves and the locality."
As recognition of their effort to improve the wild landscape of the Isle of Axholme, Morris Bros were winners in the 2015 Lincolnshire Environmental Awards organised by Lindum Rotary Club and the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, winning the Farm/Rural Enterprise Section.
Morris Bros have been a valued customer of Peacock & Binnington for over 30 years with the latest addition of machinery being a TM320S Telescopic Four-Wheel Steer Loader which was even equipped with turf tyres.
"The JCB TM320S has been fitted with 4 equal sized flotation wheels and tyres so that compaction on the fields is reduced, this machine has taken the place of a Fendt 412 with a front loader which was fitted with flotation tyres but it had 7000 hours on it and we decided to send it to a new home.
The main driver of the TM320S is very happy with the machine, he is only a young lad but he says it’s the best thing he’s ever used. The cab is extremely comfortable with really good visibility, plenty of space and a great heating and cooling system for the operator. The machine is very fuel efficient and never seems to struggle with what it’s asked to do.
The TM320S is a fantastic all-round machine that oozes quality and carries the emblem of a great British product along with other machines in the JCB range that are definitely going to find a place in our business."
Talking about the relationship with Peacock & Binnington, Phillip summarised:
"With a collaboration of minds between ourselves and Peacock and Binnington over the last 30 years we have put together some very useful pieces of machinery to enable our turf business to run smoothly, I can’t think that in all this time of an issue that hasn’t been put right quickly and to our satisfaction."
From all of us at Peacock & Binnington, we wish Morris Bros the very best in the future as we are sure that you will continue to prosper and grow and we will be there to support your machinery needs throughout your journey, just as we have been over the last 3 decades.
