We speak to our new JCB Brand Manager, David Holmes, to find out about his role here at P&B.
Dennis Hart joined P&B in January 2014 in the newly created role of JCB Brand Manager, and during his 7-year tenure so far, he has successfully grown the JCB franchise to well over 100 units per year. As Dennis' retirement approached, the time came to recruit for a designate to take over the role after the pass-over period.
Speaking to Managing Director, Graham Main, he gave us an insight into the reason for the change-over for this role:
“Time waits for no one and back in June 2021 on his 65th birthday, Dennis approached us about the subject of retirement. Although his retirement date is June 2022 he asked if he could work until the end of 2022 and see out a full year. Naturally we agreed and it was a demonstration of his passion and dedication to the brand and P&B.
Our plan was to wait until January 2022 and start the recruitment process to have someone in place by June giving us a six month handover period. By chance in September, I crossed paths with David Holmes and having had close links with him through Simba I very quickly realised he would make a credible successor. After several discussions I am pleased to announce that David Holmes has joined us as JCB Brand Manager Designate. Although a little earlier than planned this allows us a seamless change-over and gives us great continuity when Dennis retires in December 2022.
We welcome David to P&B and look forward to him continuing the success of the JCB brand. David is primarily based at Brigg & visits the other branches that sell JCB on a regular basis.”
From a Lincolnshire mixed farming family, starting out on an engineering apprenticeship and progressing onto agricultural engineering at Riseholme, David has had a successful career within both agricultural manufacturer and dealer organisations.
We wanted to find out a bit more so we spoke to David to find out about his past experience:
“Having left college, I joined a UK importer for root crop equipment before joining a local dealer in retail sales, progressing to branch manager for agricultural and ground-care products. During this time, I gained experience in retailing the JCB products, which is a skill I am hopefully able to transfer to the Peacock & Binnington role.
Over 20 years ago I joined cultivation and seeding manufacturer Simba International (latterly Great Plains) as Territory and UK Manager progressing to Sales Director which is where my business relationship with Peacock and Binnington was forged, being a major UK dealer for the Simba products.
Most recently I have been involved in product management within the crop establishment product and systems market sector with additional focus on soil management and farm practices in the UK and Europe.
I’ve maintained a business relationship with P&B for over 30 years through manufacturer to dealer, so when the chance arose it was a very exciting opportunity.
I am looking forward to working with the current JCB brand manager, Dennis Hart, and gaining from his vast experience and product knowledge during an in-depth hand over for the next 11 months, ready to take on the role after Dennis retires at the end of 2022.”
